The main property, "La Forge", is situated on the outskirts of a quiet village, in the Departement of the Lot, within a few minutes from the Dordogne River, and was the original home of the village blacksmith. Dating back to 1840, with exposed beams throughout, the property has been fully renovated, and recently redecorated, with a new state-of-the-art central heating boiler installed December 2019. There is oil-fired central heating throughout the house.

La Forge comprises 4 large bedrooms, 2  bathrooms, large sitting room with inglenook fireplace, and wood burning stove, large formal dining room, eat-in, fully equipped kitchen, also with its own Godin wood burning stove, laundry area, study/fifth bedroom,  and large conservatory. The conservatory has its own fully enclosed terrace, which provides a “mosquito-free” screened area during the hot summer evenings.

The house has a satellite dish for UK cable television and aerial receiving all French television channels.

The current owner operated the main house as a holiday rental via French Country Cottages during the period 2003-2015. Since 2019 the property has been listed as a Holiday Home with Brittany Ferries.

An additional property, a converted bake house, “L'Ancien Fournil", is accessed via the conservatory and provides a complete self-contained studio. It has its own private entrance and private terrace overlooking the heated pool. Fully renovated in 2018, the studio comprises its own sitting room, with separate television, en-suite shower room, toilet and wash basin, and double bedroom on the first floor.

The studio has been run in the past as a separate Bed and Breakfast Business, via Booking.com and received several awards in 2019 and 2020.

Gardens & Pool:

The property overlooks fields of wheat to the south and has secluded gardens to front and rear, with views to the Meyronne Cliffs and Hills. Plum, pear, apple and fig trees grow throughout the property. In front of the property is a pergola with an old vine, which in 2019 produced 35 litres of grape juice!

There is a working well to the rear of the property providing “free water” throughout the year for plant and flower watering.

The in-ground heated swimming pool, 10 metres by 5 metres is decked around the entire pool, and fully secured. The pool heat pump allows use of the pool April – November at an average temperature of 28 degrees centigrade.

To the rear of the property is a large pool house as well as a garden shed. There is sufficient parking in the driveway area at the rear of the property for at least four cars.

La Forge is situated 15 mins. From exit 55 of the main A20 motorway.

The main train station, Souillac, is 20 mins. from the house, with direct trains from Paris to the north and Toulouse to the south.

For those who need easy access to and from the UK, the closest airport is Brive, 30 mins. away, with direct flights from Stansted and Paris. Limoges Airport is 1 ½ hours away, with direct flights from Stansted and Manchester. Toulouse Airport is 1 ½ hours away, with direct flights from London and Edinburgh makingthe home convenient for visiting guests and family.

Ski Resort

The ski resort of “Super Lioran” is 80 miles away, with a direct ski train which drops you off at the foot of the slopes from nearby train station, St Denis Martel, 10 minutes away.

Rocamadour is a famous village and religious centre dating back to the 12th Century, with all its traditional buildings and Church preserved in history, characterful shops and great restaurants. The approach to the village is spectacular and is a mecca for those following the pilgrim route of Jacques de Compostelle. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Centre, the village only 15 mins from the house. Not to be missed!

Quercyland

Quercyland is one of the largest aquatic parks in the area and is a must for all children that love flumes and water games of all descriptions. A full day out in Souillac with restaurant facilities, just 15 mins from the house.

Museum of Automated Toys Souillac

The largest collection of mechanical toys in Europe dating back to the 19th Century. Fascinating engineering and fun for both young and old. 18 mins. away.  

La Cave Grotto

A wonderful visit of caves over 200 years old, located only 10 mins from the house. There are 2 restaurants opposite.

Peche Merle Caves

One of the most incredible visits you will ever make and one of the few places in Europe where you can be within feet of original cave paintings drawn by cave dwellers 20,000 years ago. The caves are an hour away to the south.

 Gardens of Eyrignac

A beautiful designer experience of sculpted gardens and topiary dating back to the 18th Century, plus a wonderful restaurant serving Perigord cuisine. 20 minutes’ drive away.

Monkey sanctuary

An entertaining family park where children of all ages can walk amongst Barbary monkeys living freely and feed them. 15 mins from the house.

Nearby restaurants serving South West France cuisine

The closest is "La Terrasse", 5 mins. walk from the house whose outdoor terrace overlooks the Dordogne River.

The closest Michelin star restaurant, "Le Pont de l'Ouysse", is in the nearby village of La Cave, 8 mins. drive from the house.

The famous "Chateau de la Treyne" restaurant and hotel has the most wonderful view perched on the Dordogne, with top service. The restaurant is 18 mins. from the house.
